i had kind of planned a picnic, but amie made me see
that a picnic was more my thing than yours and that
day was supposed to be about you. so instead you
came over early in the morning and i made you
breakfast, eggs and bacon, and i even ate
the eggs, cringing. i gave you that pre-
sent you weren’t really expecting and
we didn’t do much else, maybe a
few mad men episodes. that
afternoon, we made the
trek to your favorite
coffee place in
pasadena,
the
one your
brother introduced
you to, and we went to a
movie at the fancy theatre; i
felt young and reckless and you
felt loved because i paid for every-
thing (i was the one with the job). and
we were happy. neither of us knew that i
would ruin everything in a few months. neither
of us knew that the plans we had made together
wouldn’t come true. destruction ensued, our lives
changed, i hurt you, you hurt me, but none of that
matters. we were happy then, on that day in november.
